I started driving for 10/10 Taxi, now known as zTrip, in February 2013. This role gave me the flexibility to set my own schedule—critical since my kids were still in school. Being there for recitals, games, and parent-teacher nights meant everything.

Year One: Learning the Ropes

Training was minimal, and the real lessons began on the road. As a new driver, I paid a daily lease for the cab—24/7. In those early months, balancing trips to cover the lease and make a profit was a challenge.

Finding My Rhythm

Over time, I learned to read Kansas City: where to be and when, the hotspots for pickups, and the slower zones to avoid. This geography of opportunity—knowing the city’s beat—allowed me to maximize fare efficiency and reduce wasted cruising time. In fact, locating high-probability pickup areas significantly cuts idle driving and increases earnings.

Building Customer Loyalty

By delivering dependable service and friendly professionalism, I began earning repeat business. Small gestures—greeting passengers with a smile, being punctual, offering route suggestions—made a difference. Retaining an existing customer costs far less—5 to 25 times less—than acquiring a new one. Loyal riders became my brand ambassadors through word-of-mouth.

Using Modern Tools to Stay Ahead

Smart drivers today leverage technology—like GPS-enabled apps that suggest nearby high-demand areas and even relay real-time conditions and fare opportunities. These tools help drivers place themselves where rides are most likely and avoid endless circles.

Twelve Years Later: A Ride That Matters

A decade in, I’m proud to offer safe, reliable transportation across Kansas City—and beyond, including long-distance and airport trips. What began as an uphill climb has grown into a fulfilling journey. I’ve built more than just a career—I’ve built a trusted service rooted in consistency and community.
